Based on the Sea Level Anomaly(SLA)data from the AVISO satellite altimeter, the temperature and salinity data from HYCOM mode and the actual measurement data of the underwater glider,2 mesoscale eddies in the western Pacific Ocean are used to analyze the practicality of the Ocean Data View(ODV)software in describing the motion characteristics of mesoscale eddies, and to discuss the key techniques and methods for data analysis and processing of mesoscale eddies. The results show that the ODV can be used to quickly map the sea level height anomalies and the sea surface currents plan, and then accurately determine the types of the mesoscale eddies and track their horizontal spatial scale and evolution process. The ODV can also map the temperature and salinity profiles of any track to analyze the vertical structure and determine the structure types of the mesoscale eddies. At the same time, the ODV also provides an analysis mode for the comparison between actual measured and modelled data of vertical eddy structures, which provides powerful analysis tools and technical support method to study the mesoscale eddies.
