HM2000 profile float is a domestic novel marine observation equipment. It drifts automatically in a long term and measures the temperature and salinity profile data of seawater from sea surface to 2 000 m depth. HM2000 float has been approbated by the International Argo Project and applied to the construction and maintenance of the Global Argo Real-time Ocean Observing Network. This paper introduces the working principle, structure, function and main specifications of the float, and makes a brief comparative analysis with the APEX float. The results show that the HM2000 profile float has apparent functional advantages, and the profile data are credible and accurate. Therefore, HM2000 profile float can replace imported floats to dominate Chinese Argo re- gional ocean observation network
